After years building BeautyyBird, Maya turned her online community into an owned beauty business.
Yasmin Maya began creating beauty content long before she had a product company in mind. What started as an online outlet became BeautyyBird and, over time, a large community built around beauty.
When Maya launched Birdy Lashes, she moved from promoting products to owning the business behind them. False lashes were already closely associated with her content, making the category a natural extension of what her audience knew her for.
The size of Maya's audience can make the transition look inevitable. It was not. She self-funded the early business, saving toward the launch rather than beginning with a large outside investment.
An audience and a business are not the same thing. Maya still had to develop products, finance inventory and persuade followers to become customers. The shift gave years of accumulated attention somewhere more durable to go: an asset she owned.
